MICHAEL MENSING
1934 – 6th Dec 2014
I should like to take this opportunity to record the passing of Michael Mensing on December 6th 2014 at the age of 80. He began taking pictures of steam in his native West Midlands in the 1950s but became equally well known for his pictures of more modern traction, particularly diesel hydraulics. He had little interest in the preservation scene and, while he was happy to help this society with his superb photographic contributions, he had no wish to be supplied with free copies of ’28 Lines’! The collection of archive prints from his collection will doubtless continue to appear in ’28 Lines’ as well as numerous larger publications for many years to come, forming a small reminder of a very generous man.
