1988
70th anniversary Goods Train. All photos Simon Marshall.
On 22nd May 1988 the Society celebrated the 70th anniversary of 2857's construction at Swindon in April 1918 by the running of another demonstration goods train. This was arranged with voluntary contributions from photographers, and in fact proved to be very well subscribed. We like to think this event was the inspiration for countless photographers charters on preserved railways over the years. 2857 is seen here hauling the early morning run away from Bewdley with newly restored SECR wagon at the head of the train. Unfortunately this wagon ran a hot axlebox later in the day.
Fireman Mark Bradshaw has steam to spare as 2857 romps through Eardington Halt with the 70th Anniversary demonstration goods train on 22nd May 1988. Mark was promoted to driver many years ago and is now also 2857 Society Chairman.
